For my birthday my family took me to see Apollo 13 Mission Control. It's put on by a theater company from New Zeland, and it was in our town on the US tour.

They've recreated the whole mission control room and the audience gets to play the part of mission controllers. All working to figure out how to bring Apollo 13 home. They also pick one person to be an astronaut. I got picked and was rushed downstairs, into a space suit, and then into a capsule for the next 2 hours.

At was awesome. Even when we weren't in touch with mission control we were on our own mission. My experience in the capsule was totally different and separate from the rest of the audience.

Awesome as awesome gets for a space geek way to spend my birthday.
